Rebar, short for reinforcing bar, is a strong steel component used as a tension device to reinforce concrete and is often patterned to bond effectively with the concrete.

Rebar is used mostly for primary and secondary reinforcement. Primary means it is employed to guarantee the resistance needed to support loads required. Secondary reinforcement means it is used mainly for aesthetic reasons to prevent cracks in concrete caused by factors such as temperature changes and shrinkage.

When the time comes that it cannot be re-used it can be recycled, melted down, and re-purposed which in turns reduces the environmental impact that steel manufacturing can have.

The rebar and concrete are compatible because they expand and contract at almost the same rate, guaranteeing a degree of cohesiveness.
