If you own a business and are producing a product, knowing what devices you’ll need to safely transport them can be overwhelming. From production, to manufacturing and consumption there are many mechanisms to consider. That’s why we’ve helped to take out some of the confusion, and listed below the most common devices you’ll encounter during a product’s lifespan.

1. Conveyors

The most frequently used and common pieces of equipment are conveyors. Conveyors are used to direct products along a singular path. Meaning, this type of equipment would be ideal for the manufacturing stage of production. A conveyor can move a large amount of material onto its next stage of production without the need of human intervention. This will inevitably save you time, energy and costs as you will not need to hire an individual to move it for you.

2. Industrial Trucks

Industrial trucks are one of the most vital types of equipment. They are used in all stages of production, and can be of great for boosting productivity. But, knowing which type of truck is right for you, can be difficult. There are many different types, and each has their specific use.

For example, some trucks require manual lifting, while others have forks to lift heavy material off of pallets. So, if you intend on moving heavy products, you will want to ensure that mechanical loading is possible. Otherwise, you may be putting your workers at risk of injury during loading. Further, if you intend on handling heavy items that require to be moved around frequently look into a driver operated option. This will allow your workers to easily and quickly move the items around. Not having this option means your workers will have to manually move the truck, which can be tiresome and labor intensive.

3. Hand Trucks

Hand trucks are defined as hand operated equipment used to transport items. This is the simplest, most affordable, and widely used device in a factory. Hand trucks include such equipment as carts and dollies. Carts and dollies allow the working to quickly upload, and move the material with ease. These mechanisms are efficient, low-cost and easy to operate; making them a vital asset to any business.

4. Positioning Equipment

Positioning equipment differs from transport equipment, because it is only used to maneuver an item in a single position. This means, it can be used to feed, or shift an item into its needed position. Examples of this type of equipment include lifts, hoists and balancers. These mechanisms are ideal for preparing a product for its next stage of development. More specifically, when precision is needed, and human interference could be inaccurate.

5. Pallets

A pallet is the most common type of loading equipment for materials, and is necessary for every business owner. This is because, it is affordable, effective and easy to use. A pallet is a platform made of wood, rubber or metal with a gap large enough at the bottom to insert forks for lifting. This means, it takes the ease off of having to lift heavy material, and provides a secure foundation for doing so.

6. Racks

Storage racks are an essential material handling solution if you plan on holding, or storing material for a prolonged period of time. These racks can help to maximize the space you have in a factory, by allowing you to stack items vertically. Racks can also be labelled, organized and even digitally maintained for ease of use. This will allow you to save costs on storage, and take the frustration out of locating an item.
