We all know we should be eating healthy and nutritious food, but many people get confused about what they should be adding to their shopping cart at health food stores or at the grocery store.

What you eat will play an important part in how healthy you are, so here are 8 facts you should know about nutrition.

1. Eating a variety of vegetables will improve your health

Vegetables are a great source of vitamins, minerals, antioxydants, fibers, and many nutrients our bodies need. Don’t hesitate to try a variety of vegetables to add some colors and some new flavors to your meals.

2. Eggs are among the most nutritious foods

As anyone ever told you not to eat eggs because they were high in cholesterol? In fact, eggs are among the most nutritious foods you can eat, and they don’t raise blood cholesterol for most people.

3. You should choose unprocessed foods as often as possible

Try to reduce the amount of processed foods you eat. Processed foods are poor in nutrients, and they are often loaded with sugar, trans fats and refined wheat. Unprocessed foods are a much better choice.

4. Added sugar should be avoided

Eating food with a lot of added sugar is the same as eating empty calories that contain no nutrients. Added sugar can also lead to obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, so you should avoid it as much as possible.

5. Many people don’t get enough Omega-3 fats

Omega-3 deficiency can lead to depression, heart disease, mental disorders, and various diseases. Be sure to consume enough Omega-3 fats, which can be found in fish, eggs, and of course, supplements.

6. You really should avoid trans fats

Trans fats, also known as partially hydrogenated oils, can damage your health in many different ways. They raise bad cholesterol, cause inflammation, and increase the risks of obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

7. Changing your lifestyle is more efficient than any diet

Most of us know that diets are ineffective. The only way to reach a healthy, long term weight loss is to change your lifestyle. Eating healthy foods and exercising regularly will do more for you than any so-called miracle diet.

8. Supplements can’t replace real meals

Vitamin and mineral supplements can bring you some benefits, but you should keep in mind that they will never replace real meals and real foods. They are meant to supplement your diet, not replace it.
